The Message is Love

On Sunday, August 1, The Right Reverend Bishop Kym Lucas and Reverend Dr. Edwin Nettleton led the church service on the grounds of St. James Episcopal Church. About 40 of us gathered outside the church; because of the continuous threat of COVID.

For all growing human beings, the intrinsic value in human life is love. Episcopal affiliation or not, religious affiliation or not, all growing humans could not help being touched by Kym Lucas’s message.  As the eleventh bishop of the Episcopal Church in Colorado, Bishop Kimberly Lucas was consecrated on May 18, 2019. Lucas is the first woman and the first African American to serve as bishop in the diocese. This was her first visit to Lake City.

Love means living the Golden Rule. Love means not judging. Love means giving without thought of what we might get. Most positive philosophies and religions of the world speak of love with the emphasis placed on compassion, grace, justice, charity, liberation, righteousness, and agape love. Humans struggle with loving all, without judgment. But that’s what God says; love each other. Do not judge.

Love is kind. Love is the best in human nature. St. James Church welcomed the bishop enthusiastically. Lake City’s choir, under the direction of Claire Jessee, sang their message of love. Many hands prepared delicious dishes of brunch foods. Numerous folks were on hand helping with everything in between.  Kym’s simple message of love is the basis of life for growing human beings.
